We are determined that this last historical building in the town will rise again, proud and gracious for all to see all donations are appreciated. The money goes towards the maintenance of the Old Town Hall, development of the museum and the continuing restoration project.
Artifact Donations:
The Glace Bay Heritage Museum collects artifacts that relate to the history, culture, and people of Glace Bay. The museum relies primarily on individual donations from private citizens. Although we appreciate all inquiries, not everything can be collected. Storing, conserving and exhibiting collections is costly and requires considerable investment. It is important that only those items that can be used for display, education and study are collected. For this reason the museum often decides not to collect things that are offered to it. To ensure that the right things are collected, a 'collecting policy' has been prepared that gives guidance to curatorial staff as to what should be collected and what should not. If you think you have something of value that you would like to see displayed in the museum, please bring it by or contact us for more information.
Monetary Donations:
Without the generous support of the people of this community, the Old Town Hall would cease to exist. With the exception of summer students, volunteers keep the Museum operating. Funding comes from Society memberships, Museum donations, memorials, grants and fundraising events. Any and all monetary donations are greatly appreciated and contribute to the day to day operation of the Museum and the Museum Society. If you would like to make a donation, please contact us for more information.
Remember that all donations over $20.00 are eligible for a tax receipt!
For more information on purchasing a memorial card, please contact us.
If you can't afford to contribute financially, or you just want to participate in a more hands-on way in addition to a monetary donation, you might consider a gift in kind. "Gifts in Kind" are non-cash gifts, including building materials, labor, furnishings, exhibit items, or your time as a volunteer.
Book room
Located on the ground floor the book-room has a large variety of previously loved books for our visitors to enjoy. All money raised in the sale of these used volumes goes directly to the upkeep of the museum. If you have any used books that you wish to donate to the book-room, we would be more than happy to find them a new home.
